Lady's club captain Karen Archbold tells us why she join Lowestoft Road Runners and how she's training for a Half Ironman!
1. WHY DO YOU RUN?
I run because i love the feeling after a run. You always feel better after a run!
2. WHEN DID YOU START RUNNING?
I started running 15 years ago, then had break for a few years having children. I started running more seriously 10 years ago and joined the club 9 years ago.
3. ARE YOU TRAINING FOR ANYTHING?
I am training for the London Marathon in April and The Grafman half ironman in May.
4. DO YOU PREFER TO RUN IN THE MORNING OR EVENING?
I prefer running in the morning although it's good to mix it up with club runs in the evening.
5. ON AVERAGE HOW MANY MILES A WEEK DO YOU RUN?
It depends on what I am training for but usually I run 30-40 miles a week.
6. WHAT RUNNING SHOES DO YOU HAVE?
I have new balance neutral running trainers.
7. WHY DID YOU JOIN THE CLUB?
I joined the club to get better and faster, which happened fairly quickly, training with other people. I love the camaraderie of training nights and racing with the club.
8. WHATS YOUR ULTIMATE RUNNING GOAL?
My ultimate running goal is to complete all 6 of the marathon majors, of which i've done 4 and to get back to doing a marathon personal best!
9. WHAT OTHER SPORT / EXERCISE DO YOU DO?
I also cycle, swim and do pilates.
10. DO YOU HAVE A PRE-RACE RITUAL?
The day before a race i like to get my kit and bag together and if I have my race number , pin it to my vest so that there is less to think about on the day. race morning I try to eat at least 2 hours before the race( nothing that i haven't tried before) and drink enough fluid at least an hour before ,so that i can make a few nervous visits to the loo! Also i get to the race HQ 1 hour before the race to get ready and not feel rushed. Also before the race i do dynamic mobility stretches and a 10 min jog to warm up.
