Race Report - Ekiden Relay

On Sunday 16th July Lowestoft had a record club turn out for the Ekiden Relay held at the Woodbridge School, hosted by Ipswich Jaffa. The Ekiden relay covers a marathon distance with each team consisting of six runners completing legs of 7.2km, 5km, 10km, 5km, 10km and 5km to complete the full 42km distance, with all except the first lap being 2.5km on a winding course around the school grounds and field. It was a typically hot and humid day for the event and which made conditions tough for everyone but the team spirit made for another fantastic day out for the club.

The first team to finish for Lowestoft Road Runners finishing in 2:48:24 was the mixed team. 5th position out of 64 in their category and 22nd overall. Next was the Men's A team finishing in 3:02:00, 18th 35 teams in the Men's Open category and 43rd overall. The Men's B team finished in 3:28:57, 31st of 35 teams in the Men's Open category and 94th overall. Hot on the heels of the men was the ladies team finishing in 3:41:38, 11th of 21 teams in the Ladies Open category and 129th overall. There were a total of 199 teams to finish the event.
